Embark on a unique experience through the charming medieval towns of Girona and its surroundings, including a visit to the fortified city of Carcassonne in France. This 6-day circuit will take you on a journey filled with history, medieval architecture, and dreamy landscapes, allowing you to experience the magic of the Middle Ages in every corner.
Departure at the scheduled time for Roses or Estartit. Brief stops en route. Arrival at the hotel, room allocation, and lunch. In the afternoon, departure to visit L’Escala, where we can enjoy a pleasant walk through its old town, the seafront, or one of its beaches. Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
Breakfast. Departure to visit Castelló d’Empúries, a medieval town with narrow streets, walls, the Jewish quarter, and the Basilica of Santa María (admission included), where we will see the alabaster main altarpiece and many other interesting features. We will also visit the old prison (admission included), which houses a museum of the city’s history, and the machinery of an old mill in the Flour and Wheat Museum (admission included). We will continue to Empuriabrava, the “second Venice of Europe,” known for its navigable canals. Lunch at a restaurant. In the afternoon, visit Cadaqués, a charming village with white houses and narrow cobblestone streets that Dalí described as “the most beautiful village in the world.” Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
Breakfast. Departure for Carcassonne, a medieval city in southern France, considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We will visit the Cité, the medieval fortified area, surrounded by more than 3 km of walls and 52 towers. We will visit the Castle (entrance included) and the Basilica of Saint Nazaire, notable for its Gothic architecture. Lunch at a restaurant. Afterwards, we will explore the modern area of Carcassonne, including Place Carnot, St. Michael’s Cathedral, and the Canal du Midi, a World Heritage Site. Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
Breakfast. Departure to explore Girona with a local guide. We will walk along the famous hanging houses of the Onyar River and discover the narrow streets of the old Jewish quarter, the setting for some scenes from the series “Game of Thrones.” Lunch at the hotel. In the afternoon, visit Besalú, one of the best-preserved medieval sites in Catalonia, where we will cross its famous medieval bridge and stroll through its cobblestone streets. We will visit a local shop for a cold meat and liquor tasting (included). Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
Breakfast. Departure for Perpignan, France, to explore its old town. We will visit the Castillet and the Palace of the Kings of Majorca (entrance included), an imposing Gothic palace-fortress. Lunch at a restaurant. In the afternoon, we return to Cadaqués to further explore its medieval old town, passing through Calle del Call and visiting the Church of Santa María de Cadaqués (admission included), famous for its Baroque altarpiece and stunning views. Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
Breakfast. Departure at the scheduled time for the origin. Lunch at the hotel or restaurant. Arrival and end of our services.
