Departure at the scheduled time for Granada. Brief stops en route. Arrival at the hotel, room allocation and lunch. In the afternoon, departure to follow the Catholic Kings Route. We will pass by the Angustias Church, the Alhóndiga (entrance included), the oldest monument left to us by the Arabs. The town hall, the alcaicería (alley) that reminds us of the great souk of the 14th century, the façade of the cathedral and the Plaza Bib Rambla, silent witness to bullfights, autos-da-fé and public executions. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast. Departure to visit the Alpujarras, with spectacular landscapes and beautiful villages. We’ll start in Pampaneira, one of the jewels of the Alpujarras. A town that preserves its identity and where narrow, steep streets lined with traditional white houses await us, some with tinaos or looms mixed with colorful craft shops. We’ll visit the Chocolate Factory with tasting (entrance included), all in a wonderfully picturesque setting. We’ll continue to Fuente Agria, home to one of the ferruginous springs. We’ll continue to Trevélez, one of the highest villages in Spain and famous for its hams. We’ll visit a drying house (entrance included), where the entire process will be explained until it reaches the familiar shape. Lunch at a restaurant. In the afternoon, we’ll visit Capileira, one of the most famous landmarks of the Alpujarras. Here we will stroll through its streets and enjoy the views and the numerous local craft shops in the town. Finally, we will visit Bubión, a town that preserves its typical Berber architecture. We will pass by the town hall and the Rosario Church. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast. Departure to visit the crypt of Fray Leopoldo (admission included), a figure of kindness and charity who walked the streets of the city for approximately half a century as an alms-giver monk. We will then take a tour of Federico García Lorca’s life in Granada. We will pass by the Huerta San Vicente, a country house where the family spent every summer and where works such as Blood Wedding and Gypsy Ballads, among others, were written; by his family home, currently the Montecarlo Hotel, a luxurious house for its time; by the Chikito restaurant, a former Alameda café where Federico participates as a pianist in the gatherings; by the Sevilla bar, where we ask that you respect the tables of Lorca and Falla, who usually sit there; and by the studio of Antonio Segura, Lorca’s piano teacher, to whom he dedicated his first book. We will finish at the Faculty of Law, where the civil government was located during August 1936 and where the poet is believed to have spent his last days. A walking tour shows where Federico developed his life and customs. Return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit the Albaicín, one of the most typical neighborhoods in the city, where many charming corners await us, as well as the best views of the Alhambra. We will enter through one of the city’s most beautiful streets, Acera del Darro, and continue along Paseo de los Tristes, the route taken by funeral processions on their way to the cemetery, the most romantic and bohemian street in Granada. We will pass through alleys, gateways, squares, and viewpoints that will take us on a journey through the city’s history. Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
Breakfast. Departure to visit Guadix. We will begin with a visit to the cave district, which were excavated by humans within the clay hills. We will visit the Guadix Caves Interpretation Center (admission included), which was once a habitual residence and today offers a very complete view of the origins and evolution throughout history. We will continue with a visit to the Cave Church (admission included), where the patron saint and protector of the neighborhood is located. Finally, we’ll visit the city center, passing by the old Arab souk, the Episcopal Palace, the San Torcuato Gate, and the San Miguel or Santa Ana neighborhoods, the old Arab suburb. Return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, depart for a visit to the Alhambra (admission included) with a local guide, an architectural marvel that takes you back to the Nasrid Kingdom. A UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll see the Generalife, which they used for rest and retreat from the hustle and bustle, the Palace of Charles V, and the Nasrid Palaces (admission included).The Nasrid Palaces (admission included), the Ambassadors’ Hall, a true oriental luxury, as seen in its decoration, and the famous Court of the Lions, around which the rest of the rooms revolve. Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
Breakfast. Departure to visit Monachil, nestled in a fertile valley of the Sierra Nevada massif, overlooking the Granada plain. We will visit the Church of the Encarnación (admission included), founded in 1501. Its interior features a highlight, including the main altarpiece. We will walk along the Monachil River and continue to Pradollano, home to the Sierra Nevada ski resort. Here we will see the typical snow-covered buildings and stroll through the resort’s shopping area. Return to the hotel for lunch. Departure to visit Montefrío, named by National Geographic as one of the ten towns with the best views in the world. We’ll stroll through its sloping alleys where whitewashed houses and geraniums await us. We’ll see its wonderful neighborhoods and look out from some of its viewpoints. Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
