This 6-day trip through Asturias is designed to discover the best of the Principality: Oviedo, Gijón, Covadonga, Cangas de Onís, the Mining Route, picturesque villages like Cudillero and traditions such as cider or the Paleolithic art of Tito Bustillo.
Departure at the indicated time towards Asturias. Brief stops along the way. Arrival at the hotel, room distribution, and lunch. In the afternoon, visit to the spectacular viewpoint at Cabo de Peñas, the northernmost point of Asturias, offering views over the Cantabrian Sea. Afterwards, visit to Luanco, a former fishing village and whaling port. Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
Breakfast. Guided visit to Oviedo, capital of the Principality of Asturias. Panoramic tour through San Francisco Park and Plaza de América. Walking tour of the historic center: Cathedral of El Salvador (entrance included), Plaza de la Escandalera, Botero’s sculpture “La Gorda,” and streets with French-style architecture. Visit to the Church of Santa María del Naranco (entrance included), a pre-Romanesque gem declared a World Heritage Site. Lunch at the hotel. In the afternoon, guided visit to Gijón: stroll along the coastline, visit the statue of the emigrant’s mother, the high quarter, Church of San Pedro, Palacio de Valdés, Jovellanos Birthplace Museum (entrance included), and the Collegiate Church of Gijón. Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
Breakfast. Visit to the Picos de Europa National Park. First stop in Covadonga: the cave housing the Virgin (“La Santina”) and Don Pelayo’s tomb, the basilica, and the Royal Site. Ascent to the Lakes of Covadonga (entrance included) to admire the natural surroundings (visit subject to weather conditions). Visit to Cangas de Onís, the first capital of the Asturian Kingdom. Lunch at the hotel. In the afternoon, visit to Ribadesella, famous for the International Descent of the Sella. Visit to Tito Bustillo Cave (entrance included), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to discover Paleolithic art and prehistoric life. Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
Breakfast. Departure towards El Entrego to visit the Mining and Industry Museum (entrance included) and the Mina Imagen, with a walk and a small train ride through the mining galleries. Continuation to El Cadaviu to board the mining train of the Samuño Valley Ecomuseum (entrance included). Lunch at a restaurant. In the afternoon, visit to the Mining Town of Bustiello (entrance included) and guided tour through this “garden city” style settlement promoted by the Marquis of Comillas. Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
Breakfast. Visit to Villaviciosa, the capital of the municipality, where we will visit the El Gaitero Cider Factory (entrance and tasting included) to learn about the production process and enjoy a tasting of this Asturian emblem. Lunch at the hotel. In the afternoon, visit to Luarca, known as “the white town of the green coast,” and to Cudillero, a picturesque port with colorful houses clinging to the hillside. Return to the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
Breakfast. Visit to Langreo and its historic center: Medieval Tower of Quintana, Solís House, Buelga House, Palace of the Marquises of San Félix, and the 12th-century Church of San Esteban. Lunch at the hotel. Departure towards the place of origin. Brief stops along the way. Arrival and end of our services.
